Our licensed project of 2007, the Twisted Sisters is a pair of wrecks in the St. Lawrence River off-shore of Grenadier Island, upstream of Mallorytown landing.
Archival research has identified these wrecks as the steam propeller Pentland, built in 1894, and the schooner F. A. Georger, built in 1874.
The main objective of this project is to offer NAS-trained divers a chance to participate and develop the skills from the NAS courses in a survey of two 200 ft long wood-framed shipwrecks located side-by-side in shallow water south of Grenadier Island, near Mallorytown Landing, in the St. Lawrence River. These wrecks are known locally as the "Twin Sisters" or the "Twisted Sisters". Project activities will include mapping, site inventory, documentation of structures, search of the surrounding waters for more wreckage, and photography. Research objectives of the project are to study the site and interpret the identity/function of exposed structures, to produce a site map which can be used to interpret this site, to identify two ships and find out about their history.
